Best WordPress Hosting 2020 – Review of Bluehost, SiteGround and HostGator

There are many hosting options for your WordPress website in the market. When you choose your hosting provider, you have to consider their service reliability, user friendliness and cost effectiveness.

But how do you know which one is the best WordPress host?

Here are my recommendations. Let’s review the best hosting services I highly recommend: BluehostSiteGround, and HostGator.

1. Bluehost

Bluehost is a popular hosting service among many small business owners and bloggers who use WordPress. The reason is simple – they have cheap introductory prices ($3.95/mo), it’s simple to use (one-click install for WordPress), and they usually don’t have any performance issues.

In fact, we found Bluehost to have the best cost/value ratio. Our uptime and speed monitoring tool Pingdom showed us an average uptime of 99.99% with only 24 outages (all less than an hour in time) and an average page loading speed of 390 ms for the last 12-months.

They’re also one of the few web hosts that are officially recommended by the WordPress.org community. All of their plans come with free SSL (https://), WordPress staging environment, and easy WordPress install feature. They also have a large database of WordPress tutorials and all plans come with 24/7 live customer support.

They’re not cheap, though. Prices start at $3.95 per month, but they throw in a free domain name with SSL for a year.

2. SiteGround

SiteGround is another popular and legitimate WordPress hosting service, recommended by the WordPress.org community. Since 2004, SiteGround has grown to a large network of over 800,000 domain names around the world.

They are one of the fewer hosts, where you can also change your data center locations, from Europe to the USA. So if your visitors are mainly from Europe, it’s likely a good option for you.

Also, they offer free WordPress site transfers, include a free CDN (for caching) and image optimizations which all combined should make your WP website faster than before.

We also tested out customer support by connecting with their live chat and asked several questions to evaluate their support team. They were friendly and helpful, answering questions quickly.

In terms of uptime, SiteGround maintained an average uptime of 99.98% (with 34 outages) followed by a strong load time of 629 ms. According to our test, it’s not as fast as Bluehost or HostGator and that’s why they land in third place.

SiteGround plans start from $3.95/mo, but renew at a higher rate (similarly to many hosting providers). All of their managed WordPress plans renew at $9.95/mo (once your initial plan ends). Domain is not included, but they offer free email accounts.

3. HostGator

HostGator hosts more than 10 million domains making them one of the most popular web hosting providers on the market.

Similarly to Bluehost, HostGator also offers specialized WordPress hosting solutions, such as “WordPress Hosting.”

They are the best option for high traffic websites that need faster loading times. HostGator WordPress plan should make your site faster across different regions, especially for mobile users.

Their last 12-month average load time is 369 ms and uptime >99.99%. Their total yearly downtime was only 22 minutes, which is rather outstanding.

They also offer free site migrations with all of their plans. All of their plans come with unlimited bandwidth, storage, and email accounts.

Although their introductory prices are cheap, starting from $5.95 per month, their renewal fees are higher at $9.95 per month. However, if you apply our coupon code (WEBSITESETUP), you will be able to get it for $3.99/mo.

WordPress Hosting Summary

There are pros and cons for Bluehost, SiteGround and HostGator. They all provide superior uptime, fast load time and excellent WordPress support. The choice of the best hosting provider really depends on the user’s requirements.

In summary, the following table shows the key selling point, cost, uptime and our rating of the 3 best hosting providers for your quick reference.
